We lost a great one this week, the singer/songwriter/poet/novelist Leonard Cohen. Amid his myriad achievements, I love the story of how, in 1994, Cohen retreated to the Mt. Baldy Zen Center near Los Angeles to begin 5 years of seclusion. There he was given the Dharma name Jikan – a word Cohen translated as “the silence between two thoughts.” Such a beautiful concept. What do you find there?
