You Are My Sunshine

The Daily Q #133

InQuire More: Inspired by “You Are My Sunshine,” a song recorded by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell in 1939. This song became a beloved standard in our household in the mid-’90s after I started a nighttime ritual of singing it to our daughter as she drifted off to sleep – with her little voice often joining mine for the final lines.

For a modern take on the familiar classic, check out this amazing Rolling Stone video of country music duo Chris Stapleton and wife Morgane Stapleton, who reimagine the song as a “slow, swampy soul ballad” at Atlanta’s Eddie’s Attic in May 2013, back when Stapleton was still best known as a songwriter for artists like George Strait and Darius Rucker.
